General Instructions

STEP 1: DETERMINE WHICH TYPE OF FUNDING YOU ARE PURSUING

  • There are six types: Minor, Major, Community, Add-on, Scholarship, and Humanitarian Emergency.
  • If you are unclear on any terms or ideas, please consult the Glossary of Terms.

STEP 2: FILL OUT THE REQUIRED FORMS

GLOSSARY OF FORMS

The forms displayed below serve to educate you on what information is required when filling out your grant applications.
Please DO NOT submit any of the forms on this page.

  • Part A: Family Member Involvement

    Goal: Engage meaningfully with the organization.
  • Number of interactions
  • Leadership opportunities within organization (as board member, advisory council member, consultant, etc., i.e., do you have any oversight capability?)
  • Number of family members personally involved
  • Part B: Organization/Recipient Impact

    Goal: Support organizations with substantial impact whose missions mirror ours.
  • Longitudinal reach of effects
  • Addressable population size
  • A cover letter is your opportunity to introduce the organization you wish to support and explain what you plan to accomplish and what you are requesting from the Foundation. Your cover letter should be approximately 300 words in length (about 1 page, double-spaced) and should provide insight into each of the questions listed above. It should be addressed to the Board Members and be written in a professional format and tone.
  • You have the option of uploading your cover letter as a PDF. If so, please type "Submitting PDF" in the text box above.
    Accepted file types: pdf, Max. file size: 512 MB.
  • An email with a link to form 2.4.4b will be sent to this contact.
  • An email with a link to form 2.4.5b will be sent to this contact.
  • Note: The student may not be a relative or descendant of Steve and Margaret Wheelwright
  • An email with a link to form 2.4.7b will be sent to your proposed recipient.

STEP 3: SUBMIT FOR APPROVAL

  • Submit the required forms; the Board will review them and will generally reply by email within two weeks.
  • If your request is approved, a check will be mailed to you, made out to the organization, with a cover letter; you will deliver the check and letter to the organization.

STEP 4: RECORD AND JOURNAL

  • Journal about your experience on the blog during the course of your involvement with the organization.
  • If you receive any sort of thank you letter or acknowledgement from the organization, please send a scanned copy to wffhope@gmail.com
