Days for Girls

My passion for Days for Girls began one day in January, 2017, when I was in Mindy’s laundry room and questioned her about the large pile of brightly colored flannel she had on her counter. She took me downstairs and introduced me to her serger machine and taught me the first steps of making the flannel liners for Days for Girls reusable feminine hygiene kits that she, Rachel and Candace were making. I was then trained by the leader of DFG in Provo and learned how to connect with DFG in Boston when I returned home a week later.

In February I ordered my serger, purchased a hundred yards of flannel and cotton fabric, and began recruiting friends to join me on Monday mornings as we prepared the shields, liners and bags for a big stake Relief Society service project on Sept. 23. In the next 8 months 7-8 of my friends met on almost every Monday morning, and by Sept. 23rd we had made 1600 flannel liners, 400 shields, and 200 bags ready for our big service project.

Four hundred Stake Relief Society women met on Sept. 23rd in the Cambridge Stake Center and the Belmont Ward building and we put the snaps on the shields, ribbon through the top of the bags, and assembled 200 DFG kits, ready to go needy girls in Africa who are in need of reusable feminine hygiene products.

Days for Girls has become a wonderful addition to my life. I have loved working with dear friends as we sewed, talked, and laughed, putting our hearts and hands together, working with this incredible worldwide organization, trying to help needy girls with their monthly needs.
