Art & Film Night benefiting Fight the New Drug

I spent much of May and June organizing and preparing for this event for FTND, and I was so relieved that it all came together well, drew a nice crowd, and went smoothly! We were able to introduce so many people to the great work FTND is doing, and several expressed interest in getting more involved in the future. It was a real learning experience–about how to petition for generous donations, what to expect from guests, and the need to follow up afterwards. To really get the most out of all the effort we put into this, it will require still more work. But I think the best thing we learned is that introducing people to the cause, starting a conversation about it, and then pursuing those connections take time and energy and persistence–we have to look at it like we were planting seeds that will now grow and bear fruit down the road. One of the best parts of it, though, was exposing all of our great teenage volunteers to FTND, helping them feel some buy-in through their hard work, and watching and listening to them as they watched the first part of the documentary which we showed that night. They were very engaged and interested in the video, and had a lot to say about it afterwards. There’s no doubt that FTND has created something powerful in this documentary series and that lives will definitely be changed for the better because of it. I’m so glad we can have a hand in helping educate youth and young adults on the very damaging issues pornography creates for humanity.
